ASSESSMENT OF SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF URBAN HEAT ISLANDS (UHI) IN SEMI-ARID CLIMATE

An urban heat island phenomenon has increased in the last decades due to rapid urbanization, resulting a significant impact on local climate. In this study, remote sensing data was used analyze Spatiotemporal patterns of Urban Heat Island Intensity (UHII) over 20 years period semi-arid climate area. The relationship between Land Surface Temperature (LST), vegetation and Cover Types (LCTs) were examined. relation UHII its driving factors (different LCTs meteorological conditions) analyzed. Analysis 8-day daytime nighttime LST acquired from MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) shows that Amman both night time. results show negative correlation indicators wind speed average, indicating positive temperature. Vegetation been proven significantly reduce LST, mainly daytime, cooling effect transpiration process shadow effect.
